Celebrating my first official collab with Tantor! "Frozen Stiff", written by Sherry Shahan, is a heartwarming, action-packed, adventure that follows two young teenagers that sneak off or a camping getaway that quickly puts their survival skills to the test
Sherry spent years living in the wilderness as a photo journalist and perfectly captures the breathtaking beauty and severe unrelenting danger of the alaskan wilderness with a true photographer's eye.
Though the teens have a few close calls that might have the hairs on the back of your neck standing on edge, this was a story that was a lot of fun to read. I've always loved survival shows like "Alone" and books where people set off into the wilderness for healing and growth, like "Into The Wild" by Jon Krakauer and "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed.
Knowing a new generation of young readers can fall in love with the wilderness and everything it can teach us about ourselves had me thrilled to narrate this book!
Publisher's Summary:
What begins as a two-night camping and kayaking trek in the untamed Alaskan wilderness turns into a test of survival for Cody and her cousin Derek. While their mothers are in Juneau picking up supplies for Yakutat Lodge, the cousins sneak off in an old pickup. The taste of freedom is soon tainted when Cody's kayak is lost on the rising tide, washing away her life vest and precious supplies.
With only each other for support, the cousins face hunger and their fears of the unknown region of Southeast Alaska. As an advancing glacier floods the remote fjord, Cody and Derek find themselves facing menacing waves, immense icebergs, and wild animals. A sense that someone is following them adds to the formidable danger.
